Total recorded crime is the sum of the nine offence groups other than fraud: violence against the person, sexual offences, robbery, theft offences, criminal damage and arson, drug offences, possession of weapons offences, public order offences and miscellaneous crimes against society.
Offences recorded by the police in England and Wales, from the Home Office’s police recorded crime open data tables (Official Statistics). Each year runs from April to the following March. Rates are offences per 100,000 population, using the Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimate of the population on 30 June of the year in which the period starts. Fraud and offences recorded by the British Transport Police are not included. Crime in Scotland and Northern Ireland is recorded separately and is not included.
