Net generation of the whole electric power industry (electric utilities, independent power producers and combined heat and power plants), as reported by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). The share is the source’s net generation divided by the state’s total net generation. Net generation subtracts the electricity used by the plants themselves, so it can be negative in a year when a plant used more than it generated. Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories are not included.
