形容詞の比較級は、2 つのものを比べるときに使われる形容詞の形です。英語では、形容詞に -er をつけるか、more をつけます。
例えば
big -> bigger
happy -> happier
になります。例文を見てみましょう。
My house is bigger than yours.
私の家はあなたの家よりも大きい。
比較級を用いた文を作る際には、比較対象となる 2 つのものを than でつなぎます。↑の例文では bigger が比較級にあたり、than で比較対象の yours が続いています。
happier の -ier
英語の比較級を作る際には、通常 -er を付けますが、y で終わる多くの形容詞は y を i にして -er をつけます。
「happy」は「-y」で終わるので、ier という形を取ることになります。同様に、「pretty」も比較級は「prettier」になります。
長い形容詞は more をつける
2 音節以上の形容詞には、more を付けます。もっとわかりやすくいうと、かなり長い形容詞は more をつけます。
beautiful → more beautiful
（美しい → より美しい）
dangerous → more dangerous
（危険な → より危険な）
famous → more famous
（有名な → より有名な）
interesting → more interesting
（興味深い → より興味深い）
popular → more popular

不規則な変形方法がある形容詞もあります。
Good → Better
（良い → より良い）
Bad → Worse
（悪い → より悪い）
Little → Less
（小さい → より小さい）
Much → More
（多い、たくさんの → もっと多い）
Far → Farther/Further
（遠い → もっと遠い）
