There 構文の基本〜There is と There are の肯定・否定・疑問文（中学英語）

There is a book.

そこに本がある。

There are two books.

そこに 2 冊の本がある。

「そこに〜がある」は thereゼア is … といいます。there を使った文を there 構文といいます。there は「そこ」と訳してもかまいません。book が books と複数になると is が are になります。

There is an apple.

そこに1個のリンゴがある。

There are three cars.

そこに 3 台の車がある。

There is a bag.

そこに 1 つのバックがある。

There are five pens.

そこに 5 本のペンがある。

「〜がある」の「〜」が一つだったら is になり、複数なら are になります。

There 構文と前置詞

There is a book.

そこに本がある

There is a book on the table.

テーブルの上に本がある。

There is 構文の後ろに on the table （テーブルの上に）といったフレーズを続けることができます。on the table は基本的に book などの名詞の直後に続けます。こうしたフレーズ（前置詞句という）があるときは、there を「そこ」と訳す必要はありません。

高校生になると副詞についてくわしく習い、そこで there が主語ではないと教わります。実は there is は「主語 + 動詞」ではなく倒置文なのです。

There is a car.

A car is there.

であり、主語は a car なのです。

there は「そこ」というあいまいな場所を表す副詞です。

There is a car on the road.

道の上に車がある。

There are two chairs in the room.

部屋に2つのイスがある。

国にたくさんの人がいる。
