Figures for the nine regions of England exist only for all items, as supplementary results. ONS advises focusing on the ranking rather than the values, because the data for the more detailed regions are less robust. As the 12 regions are compared afresh, London, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland differ slightly from their all-items values on the category pages.
Relative regional consumer price levels (RRCPLs) from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). They compare the prices of the same goods and services across areas in 2016, with the UK set to 100. They compare areas at one point in time and do not show how prices changed over time.
Rents, owner occupiers’ housing costs and Council Tax are not included, nor are health and education. Motor vehicles are assumed to cost the same in every area.
Prices come from the Consumer Prices Index for July 2015 to June 2016, a regional price survey in autumn 2016, and prices collected by ONS.
