Relative regional consumer price levels (RRCPLs) from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). They compare the prices of the same goods and services across areas in 2016, with the UK set to 100. They compare areas at one point in time and do not show how prices changed over time.

Rents, owner occupiers’ housing costs and Council Tax are not included, nor are health and education. Motor vehicles are assumed to cost the same in every area.

Communication is 100 in every area, because its prices did not differ between areas.

Figures by category exist only for five areas: London, England excluding London, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. On the map, the eight regions of England outside London share one colour.

Prices come from the Consumer Prices Index for July 2015 to June 2016, a regional price survey in autumn 2016, and prices collected by ONS.
