Denali, federally designated as Mount McKinley, is the highest mountain peak in North America, with a summit 20,310 feet (6,190 m) above sea level. It rises about 18,000 feet (5,500 m) above the surrounding plateaus, one of the greatest vertical reliefs on Earth. Located in the Alaska Range in the interior of Alaska, it is the centerpiece of Denali National Park and Preserve.

The Koyukon people who live around the mountain have called the peak Denali for centuries. The first verifiable ascent to the summit was made on June 7, 1913, by Hudson Stuck, Harry Karstens, Walter Harper and Robert Tatum.
