GPT-Live 1 bills by the minute, at $0.05, with the reasoning model on top

OpenAI made GPT-Live 1 generally available in the API on 10 September 2026[3]. The model id is gpt-live-1, and it is used through the Live endpoint, v1/live/sessions[1].

It is built for full-duplex voice conversations that can carry on while a backend model or agent handles reasoning and tools[3]. OpenAI calls it its premier model for natural, expressive voice conversations with smooth interruption handling[1].

It is priced by time, at $0.05 per minute[2]. Sessions are billed per second, without rounding up to a whole minute[2].

The backend model and any tools are charged separately[1,2]. A ten-minute conversation costs $0.50 for GPT-Live 1, plus the tokens of whichever model did the reasoning.

Input and output are both audio and text, and image and video are not supported[1].

It supports streaming and function calling but not structured outputs, and its knowledge cutoff is 31 July 2025[1].
