more / most を使う比較級・最上級｜中学英語
形容詞や副詞を比較級・最上級にするとき、短い単語は -er / -est をつけますが、長い単語には more / most を前に置きます。
more / most を使う単語
3音節以上の単語
beautiful, important, interesting, difficult, expensive など、音節が3つ以上ある単語は more / most を使います。
2音節で -ful, -ous, -ing などで終わる単語
careful, famous, boring, tired など、2音節でもこれらの語尾を持つ単語は more / most を使います。
比較級の作り方
原級の前に more をつけ、than で比べる相手を示します。
This movie is more interesting than that one.
この映画はあれより面白い。
English is more difficult than Japanese for me.
英語は私にとって日本語より難しい。
This car is more expensive than my house.
この車は私の家より高い。
最上級の作り方
原級の前に the most をつけます。「〜の中で」は in や of で表します。
Mt. Fuji is the most famous mountain in Japan.
富士山は日本で最も有名な山です。
This is the most beautiful picture of all.
これはすべての中で最も美しい絵です。
She is the most popular singer in the world.
彼女は世界で最も人気のある歌手です。

例えば、happy は2音節ですが語尾が -y なので happier / happiest となります。一方、careful は2音節でも -ful で終わるので more careful / most careful となります。
