How many ... are there?（数をたずねる）｜中学英語
「いくつありますか？」「何人いますか？」と数をたずねるときは How many … are there? を使います。とてもよく使う疑問文なので、しっかり覚えておきましょう。
基本の形
How many + 複数名詞 + are there …? で「いくつの〜がありますか？」という意味になります。
How many books are there on the shelf?
棚に本は何冊ありますか？
How many students are there in your class?
あなたのクラスには何人の生徒がいますか？
How many の後には必ず複数形の名詞が来ます。
答え方
There is / There are を使って数を答えます。
How many eggs are there in the fridge?
冷蔵庫に卵はいくつありますか？
There are five.
5個あります。
How many parks are there in this city?
この市には公園がいくつありますか？
There are about ten.
約10個あります。
1つの場合は There is one. と単数形で答えます。
過去形の場合
過去のことをたずねるときは were を使います。

パーティーには何人いましたか？

数えられるものには How many、数えられないものには How much を使います。

数えられない名詞のときは is を使い、名詞も単数形（water, money など）になります。
