場所を表す前置詞と There 構文｜中学英語

There is / There are の文では、場所を表す前置詞と一緒に使うことがとても多いです。in, on, under, near などの前置詞を覚えて、「どこに何があるか」を正確に表現できるようになりましょう。

in を使った例文

「〜の中に」を表すときに使います。

There is a cat in the box.

箱の中に猫がいます。

There are three rooms in my house.

私の家には3つの部屋があります。

There is some milk in the fridge.

冷蔵庫の中に牛乳があります。

on を使った例文

「〜の上に」を表すときに使います。接触している状態を示します。

There is a book on the desk.

机の上に本があります。

There are pictures on the wall.

壁に絵がかかっています。

There is a fly on the ceiling.

天井にハエがいます。

壁（wall）や天井（ceiling）に何かがある場合も on を使います。

under を使った例文

「〜の下に」を表すときに使います。

There is a ball under the sofa.

ソファの下にボールがあります。

There are shoes under the bed.

ベッドの下に靴があります。

near / by を使った例文

「〜の近くに」「〜のそばに」を表します。

There is a park near my house.

私の家の近くに公園があります。

There is a chair by the window.

窓のそばに椅子があります。

near と by はほぼ同じ意味ですが、by の方が「すぐそばに」というニュアンスがあります。

behind / in front of を使った例文

「後ろに」「前に」を表します。

There is a garden behind the house.

家の後ろに庭があります。

There is a bus stop in front of the school.

学校の前にバス停があります。

in front of は3語でひとつの前置詞として覚えましょう。

between / next to を使った例文

「〜の間に」「〜の隣に」を表します。

There is a river between the two towns.

2つの町の間に川があります。

There is a bakery next to the bank.

銀行の隣にパン屋があります。

between は A and B と一緒に使うことが多いです。

There is a cat under the table in the kitchen.

台所のテーブルの下に猫がいます。

There are many shops near the station.

駅の近くにたくさんの店があります。

There was nothing on the shelf.

棚の上には何もありませんでした。
